The gesture shows 3 going through 9 to get to 27, a gesture that is often conjured via the muscle memory of his hand. This is drawn with a ball point pen which is then covered with clove oil. The drawings have a haptic quality and an olfactory presence as the result of the scent of cloves. Marks are created on the page and then layered with the clove oil which dissolves the ink over time. The reaction on the page is instant but slows down and continues to slowly change for months. The drawing marinates until only the imprint of the mark is left on the paper, serving as a skeleton of the drawing. Besides its sweet, pungent scent and wonderful healing properties, clove oil can help people with memory loss. It induces dreams and allows you to remember more of them. This material narrative also addresses the perception of time. A quick bold gesture can dissolve into a slow and subtle remnant  The marinated drawing becomes a material metaphor for memory.
